Availability of Our Personal Protection Dogs

Are K9 Technology Personal Protection Dogs Available?

We are frequently asked how soon can we deliver our Personal Protection Dog (PPD).   Why does it take so long to train a PPD?

This page attempts to answer these questions, and we will also explain the following:

  • Personal Protection Dog versus a Guard Dog.
  • How does K9 Tech Security trains our personal protection K9 dogs.
  • How does K9 Tech Security sources and sells PPDs.
  • Dogs we own at this time in our kennel.

Guard Dog versus Protection K9

Many people are looking for a guard dog. However, there is a big difference between a guard dog and a trained protection dog. A typical guard dog is not trained to guard property. It works based on natural territorial instincts, barking and possibly biting an intruder out of fear. Guard dogs do not undergo extensive obedience and bite training. They may be effective in guarding a smaller territory but are unlikely to engage an intruder further away from the house or their kennel.

How K9 Technology protection dogs are trained to be activated?

In most cases, K9 Technology trains our protection dogs to attack an attacker on command. The owner must give a command, such as “attack” or “bite,” and point to the person they want the dog to attack. We also train the dogs to hold and bark for cases when the owner wants the dog to be on alert and just threaten the threatening person.

The dog will run to the person and bark. If the subject attempts to attack the dog or runs towards the owner, the dog will bite automatically. This is the safest way to control a personal protection K9 dog, as we do not want to take the chance and have the dog make the decision about what is a threat and what is not.

The only time the dog may act on its own is when it is alone inside the owner’s dwelling and the owner is not around. If an intruder enters such a dwelling, the dog is trained to respond by attacking the stranger.

In some extreme cases, we train the dog to respond to a violent attack on its owner on its own. We offer this training option to owners who are afraid of high threats.

Please refer to this page for more information about our personal protection dog training.

How do we select personal protection dogs?

We select mature dogs that are between 1.5 and 2.0 years old.  These dogs had already some basic dog training typically in one of the working dog sports (KNPV, Schutzhund/IGP, or Mondioring).  At this point, we can best assess dog’s quality in terms of working dog character, training, health, and suitability to your specific needs and preferences.

We then focus on training the selected dog to best fit each of our customers’ needs and requirements.  These dogs must have a very high obedience level and at the same time be ready to attack on command a potential threat.

In many cases, we train dogs to guard the threatening person — we call it hold and bark.  When the owner just wants to warn the threat and activate the dog, the owner will give the dog a guard command.  The dog then will bark at the person.  Only in cases when the person attacks the dog or moves towards the owner, will the dog bite the person.

Other uses of protection dogs

K9 Tech Security also uses protection K9 dogs in our property security.  We leverage dogs as an effective complement to our advanced AI surveillance technology.  This solution can be also used for commercial properties such as construction sites.

Dogs We Own

As every customer has unique preferences and requirements, our policy is not to keep dogs in inventory.  We work with the best dog kennels and trainers to find the right dog for you quickly (refer to the last section of this page titled How Do We Select Your Protection Dog).   From time to time, however, we purchase and own dogs for various reasons and put through our training program.  To view these dogs, please click on the picture below.
