K9 Protection Dogs in Virginia Beach, VA
Imagine this: You and your family are walking downtown enjoying nice spring weather and looking for your favorite ice cream place. The sun is shining, and your small town is peaceful with spring flowers and trees in full bloom. Your children are ahead excited and laughing. Suddenly, you notice a quick movement of a man wearing a hooded shirt and sunglasses towards your daughter. He seems to carry a shiny object in his hand and screaming something strange. You are stunned at first, feeling powerless as you are unarmed and may not reach your daughter in time. But your loyal family guardian is already ready to act - all you must do is let go of the leash. In a second Rocky closes the distance between you and the crazy assailant, he attacks with speed and determination. The assailant does not have time to react to your K9 charging at 30 miles per hour. The assailant was neutralized, and you and your kids are safe!

How We Choose Our Personal Protection Dogs for Sale in Virginia Beach, VA
The first requirement for any dog we deem worthy of our protection canine program is that it must be bred to be a working dog.
Working Dogs 101
In the United States, the term "K9" has become the standard way to refer to working dogs. This abbreviation originated from police departments that started using "K9" to describe their police dogs, with K9 simply being a shorthand version of the word "canine," which refers to the family of animals that includes all dogs. As a result, K9 has become a common term for working police dogs.
But what exactly is a working dog? There are several types of working dogs. For instance, dogs that assist with hunting are considered working dogs, as well as those that are trained to pull carts to market. Generally, when we talk about working dogs, we refer to dogs that perform important tasks in police and military settings.

Our Family Protection Dog Selection Process
We select mature dogs aged 1.5 to 2.0 years, ideally with some basic training in working dog sports like KNPV, Schutzhund/IGP, or Mondioring. This allows us to assess their working character, training, health, and suitability for your needs.
After selection, we focus on training the dogs to meet our customers' specific requirements. These dogs must maintain a high level of obedience while also being prepared to respond to potential threats on command. Often, we train them to use a "hold and bark" technique, where the dog barks to warn of a threat when the owner gives a guard command. The dog will only bite if the person attacks or approaches the owner.
Our personal protection dogs can be trained and sold anywhere in the USA. Clients often refer their friends and family members to K9 Technology because:
- We Utilize an Effective Four-Step Selling Process
- Every Do is Selected to Meet Your Unique Needs
- Every Family Protection Dog is Trained with Your Family in Mind
- We Select Dogs from the Best Breeders in the World
- Exclusive Training from Professional Protection Dog Trainers

Family Protection Dogs for Sale in Virginia Beach, VA Tailored to Your Needs
While there are certain essential traits that all K9 dogs we select must have, we also take into account the unique needs and preferences of each customer. We start that process by conducting a thorough interview to understand your situation and engage with each adult family member. We then visit your home and property, paying close attention to your living arrangements and specific circumstances. We'll ask you questions such as:
- Do you have children and their ages?
- Do you prefer the dog(s) to live inside or outside the house?
- Do you want a family dog that will spend time with you and your family or a protection dog that would focus on its primary task?
- Do you need a protection dog that you can take with you outside your property to provide protection?
- What are your security concerns, and what are the security risks you seek protection from?
- How large is your property, and what is the local weather?

The Importance of Dog Traits
Dogs, even those of the same breed and from the same litter, can have very different personalities. Some dogs are naturally more family-oriented and exhibit patience around small children, while others may not have that same temperament. Certain dogs are highly energetic and may not be suitable for living indoors with someone who lacks experience in handling working dogs.
Some dogs also possess strong prey and defensive instincts, showcasing a higher degree of aggression that can be valuable for addressing potential intruders. Conversely, there are also dogs that are more balanced and easygoing, yet still fully capable of dealing with your average criminal threat.
Selecting the right personal protection dog for your needs takes many years of experience and knowledge of dog behavior. That's why, at K9 Technology, we've assembled a world-class team for exactly this purpose.

Top 3 Family Protection Dogs for Sale in Virginia Beach, VA
At K9 Technology, one of the most common questions we get often revolves around what the best K9 protection dogs are. That's a difficult question to answer because every breed is different, and every family and individual will have different needs and goals with their protection dog. However, generally speaking, working dogs like the following breeds are often the best.
German Shepards
German Shepherds are commonly chosen to work alongside police officers for a good reason. They are courageous animals, displaying both confidence and boldness. Their high intelligence and ability to learn commands quickly make them a popular choice among individuals and families. When they join a household, they tend to have a calm demeanor and are very affectionate. However, don't be fooled; if their home is threatened, they will respond swiftly to protect their loved ones.

Belgian Malinois
The Belgian Malinois is a highly energetic breed that possesses the strength and vigor of a large dog, all while maintaining a lighter frame. Similar to Dobermans, Malinois are exceptionally intelligent and alert. Like many protective breeds, they require regular physical activity and mental challenges to truly thrive.

Dutch Shepherds
If you're looking for a versatile and highly intelligent protection dog, the Dutch Shepherd is an outstanding choice. Originally developed in the Netherlands for herding and guarding duties, this breed is known for its incredible work ethic, adaptability, and loyalty. Dutch Shepherds are extremely trainable, making them ideal for both personal and family protection.

Meet - Let's Get to Know Each Other
When our customers reach out, our first priority is to understand their security concerns. We want to know why you're considering a personal protection dog and what experiences led you here. Are you worried about being assaulted and sent to Bickford of Virginia Beach near Virginia Beach, VA? Are you looking for a loyal companion to protect your family? Do you expect the dog to guard you at home, at work, while traveling, or all of the above?
Next, it's crucial to understand your lifestyle. Are you active? Do you have young children? Are you often on the go, and do you live in an urban, suburban, or rural setting? We also want to know your preferences for the personal protection dog (PPD). While some clients care less about appearance, others have specific ideas about size, coat type, and ear shape. It's important that you and your family feel comfortable with your new .
As we learn about you, we make it a point to be transparent about our philosophy. We aim to present the facts clearly to avoid any unrealistic expectations.

Search - We Find the Perfect Family Protection Dog for You
Once we get comfortable with each other, we can begin the search for a personal protection dog. While there might be one available immediately, this is quite rare. Keep in mind that no company can offer a wide variety of sizes, looks, and training levels. Be wary of vendors claiming otherwise, as those with large inventories often focus on selling what they have rather than what you truly need.
At K9 Technology, we tap into an extensive network of top kennels and trainers in the US and Europe. If we don't have a suitable dog available, we'll reach out within our network to find the right match for you

Train - K9 Technology Trains Your Personal Protection Dog
We typically select dogs aged 1.5 to 3 years with some basic training, ensuring they have the necessary obedience and drive. Each dog, even the best trained, undergoes a thorough evaluation and training period with our staff, which can last from 1 to 5 months. We assess what additional training is needed to meet your specific requirements.
Once our trainers are confident in the protection dog's skills, we place the dog with a staff member for a final evaluation, handling it as you would. When we believe the dog is ready for your home, we proceed to the next essential phase of our process.

Delivery - Enjoy Life with Enhanced Peace of Mind
This training course typically lasts from three days to over a week, depending on your experience and comfort level. You will practice real-life scenarios to learn how to instruct your dog to protect you. Throughout this process, we will spend time in your community and accompany you to ensure you feel comfortable taking on the role of handler with your new dog.
Remember, you are not just getting a pet; you are welcoming a trained working dog into your home. We will make sure you understand the basics of handling a working dog, including issuing commands and managing challenging situations.
For those with dog handling experience, we offer less guidance, while beginners receive the support they need to feel confident. We provide essential supplies, including leashes, collars, crates, and enough food and supplements for the first few weeks. We also assist you in finding local veterinarians and health professionals to keep your dog healthy
We visit the homes of all our customers to ensure everything is ready for their new family member. This visit may take place before introducing the dog or be combined with the introduction itself, depending on your preferences.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Virginia Beach city leaders expected nearly 10,000 people for their Fourth of July fireworks show, and the crowds did not disappoint.
A beautiful fireworks display filled the ocean air in Virginia Beach on Friday evening. Many people camped out all day to secure a waterfront spot, telling 13News Now that it was well worth the wait.
Oceanfront business owners said this holiday weekend fuels their bottom line while they help people make lifelong memories.
City leaders in Virginia Beach said more than 33,000 residents rely on the tourism industry for work. In 2023, visitors poured $2.5 billion into the Virginia Beach economy.
“The Fourth of July weekend is critical," said D. Nachnani, owner of Coastal Edge and President of the Atlantic Avenue Association.
Nachnani said the economic boost from the Fourth of July weekend provides a cushion for business owners to breathe comfortably in the winter months, which see fewer tourist dollars.
“A lot of our businesses rely on the months of July and August, for a successful season. A disproportionate amount of income comes from the Fourth of July weekend," said Nachnani.
Local staples like Chicho's on 29th Street welcome the boom in business but added that it needs to be planned for.
“This week, we’ve prepared about 400 pounds of pizza dough. We’ll sell out each day, probably. We’ll have to make another 150 pounds each day minimum, if not more," said Matt Porter, the operating owner of Chicho's.
Porter added, “The number of people down here that are wearing red, white, and blue, and the staff make money, everyone’s having a good time down here."
For families, a day on the beach means lifelong memories and money well spent.
Jose Segura brought his family to the beach early on the Fourth and said it was worth the wait and drive.
“We wanted to come celebrate the Fourth of July on the beach. We got here around 7:30 this morning to get a good spot, and just spend the whole day at the beach until the fireworks," Segura said.
It was a successful hosting of the Fourth of July, business owners said, especially since there is a sense of pride in a town with such deep military roots.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — With a historic milestone within reach, Virginia Beach United returns to the Sportsplex on Saturday night for its final home match of the regular season—and the stakes couldn’t be higher.
VBU (9-2-1) hosts Charlottesville Blues FC (4-4-4) on July 5 at 7 p.m., as the club aims to secure its first-ever Chesapeake Division title. The match doubles as Fan Appreciation Night, promising a high-energy atmosphere as supporters rally behind a team riding a wave of momentum.
Currently atop the standings with 29 points, United controls its own destiny. Just four more points across its final two matches would officially lock up the division championship. Even a tie with second-place Lionsbridge FC at 33 points would go in VBU’s favor, thanks to a 2-1 head-to-head win on June 21.
Virginia Beach enters Saturday’s matchup on a red-hot seven-game win streak, their latest coming Wednesday with a 2-0 road victory over Virginia Marauders FC. Alexander Moody and Campbell Stalker found the back of the net in the second half, while goalkeeper Joe O’Shaughnessy earned another clean sheet to preserve the shutout.
Charlottesville arrives on the heels of a 2-1 win at Patuxent FC, with goals from Zachary Martens and Luke Madden. The Blues, currently sitting mid-table, bring a 4-4-4 record into Saturday’s contest.
History is on VBU’s side—the team holds a 3-0 all-time edge over the Blues, including a 1-0 win on the road earlier this season. Since their first meeting in May 2023, Virginia Beach has outscored Charlottesville 7-1 across their three matchups.
As Fan Appreciation Night brings supporters out in force, Virginia Beach United hopes to deliver a win that brings them one giant step closer to their first division crown—and gives fans even more reason to celebrate.

With recent complaints about parking in Virginia Beach, an inexpensive option is available to residents and tourists alike.
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Getting around Virginia Beach during the busy summer season can be a challenge, especially when it comes to parking near the Oceanfront. However, one transportation option is offering both locals and tourists a way to save money, skip traffic, and enjoy the ride.
Hampton Roads Transit’s VB Wave trolley system is a seasonal service designed to transport passengers to popular destinations in Virginia Beach, including the boardwalk, the Virginia Aquarium, and major restaurant and shopping areas.
“It’s not only a unique form of transportation, but it’s just part of the experience,” said Thomas Becher, Communications Manager for HRT “It is an efficient way to get up and down the Oceanfront.”
The trolley arrives approximately every 15 minutes and offers all-day passes starting at just $4.50, with children 17 and under riding free. That price point is appealing, especially when compared to parking lots that can charge more than $30 a day near the Oceanfront.
For Virginia Beach resident Geneva Curry, the parking battle is all too familiar. “Parking down here is insane,” Curry said. “We pack all of our stuff in a car, bring everything down to the beach, park for like 15–20 minutes, drive ourselves back, and then bike down.”
Curry, who also works in the vacation industry, said she frequently recommends the trolley to visitors and even uses it herself.
“We utilize that as locals all the time… it’s great not having to worry about driving, the traffic, parking and everything,” she said.
Becher agrees the VB Wave isn’t just for tourists, it’s also a reliable, budget-friendly resource for residents. “If you’re on a budget and watching your dollars, you can ride all day for $4.50,” he said.
With convenience, affordability, and a ride that keeps you connected to all that Virginia Beach has to offer, the VB Wave is helping passengers cruise through summer with less stress. Next year, Becher tells us they plan to add a tap-to-pay option to make it even easier for those using the trolley to pay.
The VB Wave operates daily through Labor Day weekend. Route maps, fare details, and schedules can be found on the Hampton Roads Transit website.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — For the first time in years, the Fourth of July falls on a Friday, prompting officials in Virginia to prioritize safety on the water.
With an expected influx of boaters, authorities are urging individuals to avoid operating watercraft while under the influence of alcohol.
On Thursday, families took advantage of the holiday weekend by launching from the Owl Creek Public Boat Ramp.
Matthew Rogacki, who spent the day kayaking with his wife, shared, “I decided to take the day off from work, my wife took the day off, and we sent our kid to daycare so we could have a nice outing before a long weekend.”
However, safety experts are concerned about the risks associated with alcohol consumption on the water.
“Alcohol use is extremely dangerous on the water because you don't have a flat, solid surface," Lieutenant Joshua Thomas of the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources emphasized. "You're out there in the elements—the weather and the wind—it’s a very dynamic environment. The effects of alcohol are intensified on the water.”
He pointed out that while it is legal to consume alcohol on a boat, operating a vessel while intoxicated is illegal.
As part of a national initiative titled “Operation Dry Water,” local authorities are actively working to combat boating under the influence. Lieutenant Thomas reported five arrests for boating while intoxicated in the eastern Virginia region since May.
Charter captain Jake Hiles noted the prevalence of alcohol consumption among boaters.
“It’s a really common thing. A lot of people want to relax and have a couple of drinks while they’re out, but it is a very dangerous thing to do,” he said.
Hiles supports increased monitoring on the water, particularly during busy holiday weekends, stating, “Not only can you hurt yourself, but you can very easily hurt other people.”
In response to these safety concerns, authorities will implement enhanced patrols throughout the Fourth of July weekend.
Anyone who suspects another boater may be intoxicated is encouraged to report it. The reporting number is 1(800)-237-5712.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — You’ll start to notice a higher bill arriving to the table when eating out in Virginia Beach.
Starting Tuesday, July 1, the city is increasing its meal tax by 0.5%, which will bring that total tax to 6%. However, this tax increase will sit on top of a 6% existing sales tax, creating a 12% total tax for anyone grabbing a bite to eat in the city.
Bill Dillon, the owner of Abbey Road Pub and Restaurant, said he feels this change will only negatively impact restaurants across the city.
“We’re unfairly targeted with a tax that other industries don’t have to charge their customers,” Dillon said.
The tax increase comes during the peak summer season at the Oceanfront, leaving many visitors who took a trip to the beach discouraged.
“I don’t want to be paying that, I would rather tip our server,” said one tourist.
Amanda Clarke from Northern Virginia told 13News Now it can be hard to go out as a family with her nine children. When she does, it typically costs a pretty penny.
That’s why she said, when it comes to certain taxes, she would prefer that they stick to a minimum. With the increased meal tax, she said she might limit her trips to restaurants during her stay in the city.
“I mean, how much more does the government need?” Clarke said.
The City of Virginia Beach also provided a comment on its decision to raise the meal tax:
The City of Virginia Beach understands that any tax increase can have an impact on our residents, visitors and business community. The City is experiencing a significant cost increase in capital projects, which is largely being driven by inflation. As a part of the budget development process, several projects were deleted and rescoped, long-standing dedications were redirected toward priority projects, and after all of these efforts, a gap still remained, resulting in the need for the 0.5% meal tax increase. The redirection of these resources and the meal tax increase are dedicated to a newly established Major Projects fund.
Additionally, according to the City, Virginia Beach has one of the lowest meal taxes in the Hampton Roads area:
The City also added that "based on economic estimates, nearly 40% of meals tax revenue is generated by out of town visitors.”
