The Wolf Fire burning in Banning is the largest of the fires sparked over the weekend. Evacuation orders and warnings are in place.

Numerous fires broke out across the Inland Empire over the weekend, prompting evacuation orders and warnings for several communities amid hot temperatures.

Residents in Riverside, Banning, San Bernardino, Phelan and Aguanga -- east of Temecula -- were all keeping a close eye on the flames as conditions remain hot and dry.

Due to the Wolf Fire and Mindy Fire, a smoke advisory is in effect until Monday at 6 p.m. with an air quality that may be unhealthy for some sensitive groups.

Here's a look at the fires burning in the Inland Empire, maps of the locations and the latest containment status:

Wolf Fire in Banning

The Wolf Fire burning in Banning was sparked on Sunday and has scorched an estimated 2,414 acres. It is now 30% contained.

Evacuation orders and warnings are in place for several areas near the fire. On Monday, the warning area expanded to include more zones as the large fire continues to burn.

In an update on Monday morning, Cal Fire said firefighters made good progress overnight. Multiple aircraft, along with hundreds of firefighters on the ground, will continue to establish containment lines.

New video from overnight shows night flying helicopters and hundreds of firefighters working through the night to contain the flames. Cal Fire says the fire is burning at a moderate rate in medium-to-heavy brush.

So far, no structures have been destroyed or damaged, but the flames are pushing closer to the 10 Freeway near Banning, where evacuation warnings have been issued.

A care and reception site is open at Hemet High School, located at 41701 E Stetson Ave. An animal shelter is open at San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus, located at 581 S. Grand Ave.

Juniper Fire in Perris - Forward progress stopped

Firefighters are battling the 689-acre Juniper Fire burning in grass and brush at Idaleona Road and Juniper Road in Perris. Additional ground and air resources are responding. The fire is 30% contained and forward progress has stopped.

Evacuation orders and warnings are in place for several nearby communities. Several rural properties are in immediate danger of damage, according to fire officials.

According to Cal Fire, the fire was burning at a critical rate of spread.

In an update on Monday afternoon, Cal Fire said the fire continues to burn in steep terrain. Firefighters will remain on-scene overnight and into Tuesday morning, working on full containment.

Santa Rosa Mine Road is closed between Juniper Road and Post Road. Residents are being asked to avoid the area.

AIR7 captured dramatic footage from above the fire, including what appeared to be a structure burning.

A Care and Reception Center has been set up at Citrus Hills High School, located at 18150 Wood Rd.

Lake Fire in San Bernardino County - Forward progress stopped

The Lake Fire erupted Saturday afternoon on State Highway 173 and Cedar Springs Dam Trail, near Silverwood Lake. No injuries or structural damage were reported.

The fire is 483 acres and 40% contained, per CAL FIRE.

An evacuation order for the area south of Highway 138 between the 15 Freeway and Highway was downgraded to an evacuation warning. That warning remained in place on Monday.

Forward progress was stopped around noon on Sunday.

Cable Fire in San Bernardino - Forward progress stopped

An evacuation order was lifted for the Cable Fire burning in San Bernardino near Martin Ranch Road, north of West Meyers.

At least 19 acres burned, and the fire is 50% contained. All forward progress has stopped.

Video shows the fire line burning close to a home as crews work to stop it.

Officials said one firefighter had to be treated for a heat-related injury.

Crews continue to strengthen containment lines and monitor for any remaining hotspots.

Mindy Fire in Sage - Forward progress stopped

All evacuation warnings and orders have been lifted for the 109-acre Mindy Fire near Decoursey Road and Mindy Lane in Sage, near Aguanga.

The fire is 80% contained, and forward progress has stopped, according to Cal Fire.

Firefighters will remain on scene, working to strengthen containment lines.

Mandalay Fire in Riverside - Forward progress stopped

Mandatory evacuations have been lifted near the Mandalay Fire, which burned at least 83 acres in Riverside on Sunday. It was 100% contained by Monday.

Residents may now access their homes with identification, and just a few streets will remain closed on Monday.

The City of Riverside Fire Department said residents can expect to experience drift smoke throughout the day.

The Mandalay Fire erupted on Tyler Street between Jurupa Avenue and Arlington Avenue in Riverside on Sunday. The fire was burning in a residential area that butts up to the Hidden Valley nature area. In an update at 4:40 p.m. Sunday, fire officials said forward progress had stopped.

Wilson Fire in Phelan - Forward progress stopped

The two-acre Wilson Fire that burned in the 9100 block of Wilson Ranch Road in Phelan is now 100% contained.

At one point on Sunday, immediate evacuations were in place for residents in the area. The order has since been lifted.

Cal Fire said forward progress had stopped.

A rapidly-growing brush fire broke out near Silverwood Lake in San Bernardino County on Saturday.

It was first reported at around 4 p.m. near the recreation area located just south of Hesperia in the foothills of the San Bernardino Mountains, according to Cal Fire and San Bernardino County Fire Department crews.

They say that the blaze, dubbed the Lake Fire, was burning at a "dangerous rate of spread" prompting them to deploy "significant augmentation of air and ground resources."

By 8:45 p.m, crews said that the fire was about 485 acres and had a dangerous rate of spread through heavy brush. Some structures were reportedly threatened as the flames continued to grow.

In an update Sunday evening, Cal Fire said crews gained 15% containment over the fire after activity decreased significantly overnight. By the afternoon they reported that forward progress had been halted.

Firefighters requested evacuations for the area due to the blaze, which they said had the potential to engulf up to 1,000 acres as it burned to the north. Cal Fire added that dry conditions and wind speeds of 30 miles per hour could challenge supression efforts Sunday night and into Monday.

Along with Cal Fire and SBCFD, San Bernardino National Forest crews were also aiding in the firefight.

Evacuation orders downgraded

At around 5 p.m., evacuation orders were issued for the Silverwood Lake area, which were carried out by San Bernardino County deputies. A short time later, firefighters announced additional orders for the region south of Highway 138 from Highway 173 to Summit Valley Road.

All evacuation orders were downgraded to warnings at around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Firefighters advised people to avoid using Highway 173 and Highway 138, as fire was burning on both sides of the latter. Highway 138 was also closed from Old Mill to the I-15 Freeway.

An evacuation warning was ordered for the area north of Highway 138 and Highway 173 from Summit Valley Road to Arrowhead Lake Road at 8 p.m.

A second fire also broke out in San Bernardino County on Saturday, torching around 80 acres of vegetation before crews were able to gain the upper hand.

Fires erupt across Inland Empire

The Lake Fire was just one of many to break out across the Inland Empire over the weekend. Around the same time that it was first reported, San Bernardino County crews were also dispatched to the 80+ acre Smiley Fire, which they have now gained the upper hand on.

On Sunday, there were several different fires that also erupted in Riverside County. The Wolf Fire, burning south of Banning, quickly scorched more than 800 acres while the Mandalay Fire forced evacuation orders near homes in Riverside and the Mindy Fire engulfed dozens of acres near Aguanga.

The Lake fire in San Bernardino County had blackened more than 480 acres as of Sunday night, but officials said crews were gaining some control, stopping the fire’s forward rate of spread.

Mandatory evacuations were reduced to warnings in the Summit Valley area south of Highway 138.

More than 100 people were temporarily stranded off a highway after fleeing 100-foot flames from the brush fire after it broke out late Saturday afternoon near a reservoir. The blaze prompted road closures and evacuations.

Amid hot, dry and windy conditions, the fire remained only 15% contained Sunday night, according to Chloe Castillo, a spokesperson for Cal Fire in San Bernardino County.

Visitors who left vehicles, camping gear or other personal belongings at the Silverwood Lake State Recreation Area as they fled are now allowed to return and retrieve them, Castillo said.

Cal Fire said visitors should go to a road closure checkpoint at Highway 138 and Highway 173 in Hesperia and be prepared to show identification. Castillo said California Highway Patrol officers will escort people to their belongings. The lake will be closed through Wednesday, and reservations that were booked have been canceled, she added.

The blaze broke out shortly before 4 p.m. Saturday at Silverwood Lake State Recreation Area, near Highway 173 and Cedar Springs Dam Trail. By 8:48 p.m. on Saturday, the fire had increased to 478 acres from 60 acres just hours earlier, according to Cal Fire officials.

More than 100 people were at the reservoir when the fire broke out and were forced to flee the flames. Boaters and jet skiers helped evacuate people away from the beach to another area where they were then taken to a roadside turnout on Highway 173, just north of the lake. Many people were wearing beach attire and flip-flops.

Shaun Kirkman and his girlfriend, Amber King, were among those who had to flee.

“I was west of the beach, fishing in vegetation,” Kirkman said. “The fire sounded like Velcro so I kept fishing, then it got louder. I saw 100-foot flames. Me and my girlfriend ran out of there.“

Gloria Orejel, spokesperson for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, said about 75 to 100 people were camping in the area and had to evacuate with whatever they had on. She said park rangers helped transport people to another spot on the highway. As of 8 p.m., the group had been taken back to their vehicles.

Although evacuation orders were downgraded to warnings, road closures remained in effect, Castillo said. Highway 138 was closed from Highway 173 to Old Mill Road.

Fire crews were battling the blaze over the weekend both on the ground and in the air.

After an expected increase in humidity overnight, providing firefighters some relief, crews had to contend Sunday with drier conditions as well as gusting winds, which caused the smoke to billow and spread.

“They had a wind shift this afternoon around 12 o’clock ... at the fire’s head,” Castillo said. “It sent up lot of smoke so people were under the impression there was a new fire in the area. There wasn’t. It was the fire within the existing perimeter.”

But she warned that the weather in the desert was likely to make fire conditions worse in coming weeks and months.

“The hotter it gets, the drier it gets,” Castillo said. “A lot of the vegetation is still green, so that doesn’t look very good for coming months as it gets drier and hotter and all of this green vegetation dries out. It’s a fuel bed, a really large, dry bed.”

She urged homeowners to focus on defensible spaces around their homes, cleaning their gutters of debris and moving fireworks at least 150 feet from structures.

“If they don’t make sure [debris is] cleared away from their home, it’s going to ultimately catch their home on fire,” Castillo said.

The cause of the Lake fire remained under investigation.

Also burning in San Bernardino County on Sunday was the Cable fire, which had scorched 15 acres and was at 0% containment by evening, according to Castillo.

Evacuation orders for roughly half a dozen homes were being reevaluated because of the progress firefighters have made.

On Friday, Southern California fire chiefs warned that a season of devastating wildfires was likely amid low rainfall and dry conditions.

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif. – Crews are racing to contain and extinguish a wildfire that broke out in Southern California on Tuesday, exploding in size in a matter of hours and forcing people to flee their homes.

According to CAL FIRE, the Ranch Fire broke out near Apple Valley in San Bernardino County just after 2:30 p.m. local time on Tuesday. The blaze was initially reported to be about 80 acres but quickly grew.

In a matter of about four hours, the Ranch Fire had grown to 2,000 acres and then doubled in size to more than 4,200 acres by Tuesday night.

The Ranch Fire, as of Wednesday afternoon, is 10% contained and the cause is under investigation.

Evacuations have been ordered in the area, with people and their pets living in the area of Milpas Drive to High Road, south of Highway 18, told to flee for safety.

Evacuation centers have been set up for evacuated residents at the Sitting Bull Academy on Sitting Bull Road in Apple Valley, while the Victorville Fairgrounds in Victorville are being opened up to shelter large animals.

Fire rages months after Line Fire

This latest wildfire in San Bernardino County comes months after the destructive Line Fire scorched nearly 44,000 acres back in September 2024.

Tens of thousands of structures had been threatened by the Line Fire, while heroic efforts to contain and extinguish that blaze took weeks.

A two-hour time-lapse video showed flames from the Line Fire surrounding a camera, with the video surviving about an hour in the middle of the inferno until the camera feed cut out.

No deaths were reported, but at least six firefighters were injured while battling the fire.

Arson was determined as the cause of the fire, and on Sept. 10, a 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of starting the blaze in Highland, California, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department said.
