K9 Protection Dogs in Detroit, MI
Imagine this: You and your family are walking downtown enjoying nice spring weather and looking for your favorite ice cream place. The sun is shining, and your small town is peaceful with spring flowers and trees in full bloom. Your children are ahead excited and laughing. Suddenly, you notice a quick movement of a man wearing a hooded shirt and sunglasses towards your daughter. He seems to carry a shiny object in his hand and screaming something strange. You are stunned at first, feeling powerless as you are unarmed and may not reach your daughter in time. But your loyal family guardian is already ready to act - all you must do is let go of the leash. How We Choose Our Personal Protection Dogs for Sale in Detroit, MI
The first requirement for any dog we deem worthy of our protection canine program is that it must be bred to be a working dog.
Working Dogs 101
In the United States, the term "K9" has become the standard way to refer to working dogs. This abbreviation originated from police departments that started using "K9" to describe their police dogs, with K9 simply being a shorthand version of the word "canine," which refers to the family of animals that includes all dogs. As a result, K9 has become a common term for working police dogs.
But what exactly is a working dog? There are several types of working dogs. For instance, dogs that assist with hunting are considered working dogs, as well as those that are trained to pull carts to market. Generally, when we talk about working dogs, we refer to dogs that perform important tasks in police and military settings.

Our Family Protection Dog Selection Process
We select mature dogs aged 1.5 to 2.0 years, ideally with some basic training in working dog sports like KNPV, Schutzhund/IGP, or Mondioring. This allows us to assess their working character, training, health, and suitability for your needs.
After selection, we focus on training the dogs to meet our customers' specific requirements. These dogs must maintain a high level of obedience while also being prepared to respond to potential threats on command. Often, we train them to use a "hold and bark" technique, where the dog barks to warn of a threat when the owner gives a guard command. The dog will only bite if the person attacks or approaches the owner.
Our personal protection dogs can be trained and sold anywhere in the USA. Clients often refer their friends and family members to K9 Technology because:
- We Utilize an Effective Four-Step Selling Process
- Every Do is Selected to Meet Your Unique Needs
- Every Family Protection Dog is Trained with Your Family in Mind
- We Select Dogs from the Best Breeders in the World
- Exclusive Training from Professional Protection Dog Trainers

Family Protection Dogs for Sale in Detroit, MI Tailored to Your Needs
While there are certain essential traits that all K9 dogs we select must have, we also take into account the unique needs and preferences of each customer. We start that process by conducting a thorough interview to understand your situation and engage with each adult family member. We then visit your home and property, paying close attention to your living arrangements and specific circumstances. We'll ask you questions such as:
- Do you have children and their ages?
- Do you prefer the dog(s) to live inside or outside the house?
- Do you want a family dog that will spend time with you and your family or a protection dog that would focus on its primary task?
- Do you need a protection dog that you can take with you outside your property to provide protection?
- What are your security concerns, and what are the security risks you seek protection from?
- How large is your property, and what is the local weather?

The Importance of Dog Traits
Dogs, even those of the same breed and from the same litter, can have very different personalities. Some dogs are naturally more family-oriented and exhibit patience around small children, while others may not have that same temperament. Certain dogs are highly energetic and may not be suitable for living indoors with someone who lacks experience in handling working dogs.
Some dogs also possess strong prey and defensive instincts, showcasing a higher degree of aggression that can be valuable for addressing potential intruders. Conversely, there are also dogs that are more balanced and easygoing, yet still fully capable of dealing with your average criminal threat.
Selecting the right personal protection dog for your needs takes many years of experience and knowledge of dog behavior. That's why, at K9 Technology, we've assembled a world-class team for exactly this purpose.

Top 3 Family Protection Dogs for Sale in Detroit, MI
At K9 Technology, one of the most common questions we get often revolves around what the best K9 protection dogs are. That's a difficult question to answer because every breed is different, and every family and individual will have different needs and goals with their protection dog. However, generally speaking, working dogs like the following breeds are often the best.
German Shepards
German Shepherds are commonly chosen to work alongside police officers for a good reason. They are courageous animals, displaying both confidence and boldness. Their high intelligence and ability to learn commands quickly make them a popular choice among individuals and families. When they join a household, they tend to have a calm demeanor and are very affectionate. However, don't be fooled; if their home is threatened, they will respond swiftly to protect their loved ones.

Belgian Malinois
The Belgian Malinois is a highly energetic breed that possesses the strength and vigor of a large dog, all while maintaining a lighter frame. Similar to Dobermans, Malinois are exceptionally intelligent and alert. Like many protective breeds, they require regular physical activity and mental challenges to truly thrive.

Dutch Shepherds
If you're looking for a versatile and highly intelligent protection dog, the Dutch Shepherd is an outstanding choice. Originally developed in the Netherlands for herding and guarding duties, this breed is known for its incredible work ethic, adaptability, and loyalty. Dutch Shepherds are extremely trainable, making them ideal for both personal and family protection.

The K9 Technology Difference
Investing in one or more K9 protection dogs for sale in Detroit, MI, is a significant decision for you and your family. You're not just bringing home a new family member; you're also gaining a crucial ally who can help safeguard your lives. At K9 Technology, we prioritize the selection and seamless integration of this dog into your home, ensuring a smooth transition and a strong bond with your loved ones.
Our Selling Process Explained
Our four-step selling process is very thorough and is tailored to your needs, schedule, and family life. It includes:

Meet - Let's Get to Know Each Other
When our customers reach out, our first priority is to understand their security concerns. We want to know why you're considering a personal protection dog and what experiences led you here. Are you worried about being assaulted and sent to Dream Estates Assisted Living near Detroit, MI? Are you looking for a loyal companion to protect your family? Do you expect the dog to guard you at home, at work, while traveling, or all of the above?
Next, it's crucial to understand your lifestyle. Are you active? Do you have young children? Are you often on the go, and do you live in an urban, suburban, or rural setting? We also want to know your preferences for the personal protection dog (PPD). While some clients care less about appearance, others have specific ideas about size, coat type, and ear shape. It's important that you and your family feel comfortable with your new .
As we learn about you, we make it a point to be transparent about our philosophy. We aim to present the facts clearly to avoid any unrealistic expectations.

Search - We Find the Perfect Family Protection Dog for You
Once we get comfortable with each other, we can begin the search for a personal protection dog. While there might be one available immediately, this is quite rare. Keep in mind that no company can offer a wide variety of sizes, looks, and training levels. Be wary of vendors claiming otherwise, as those with large inventories often focus on selling what they have rather than what you truly need.
At K9 Technology, we tap into an extensive network of top kennels and trainers in the US and Europe. If we don't have a suitable dog available, we'll reach out within our network to find the right match for you

Train - K9 Technology Trains Your Personal Protection Dog
We typically select dogs aged 1.5 to 3 years with some basic training, ensuring they have the necessary obedience and drive. Each dog, even the best trained, undergoes a thorough evaluation and training period with our staff, which can last from 1 to 5 months. We assess what additional training is needed to meet your specific requirements.
Once our trainers are confident in the protection dog's skills, we place the dog with a staff member for a final evaluation, handling it as you would. When we believe the dog is ready for your home, we proceed to the next essential phase of our process.

Delivery - Enjoy Life with Enhanced Peace of Mind
This training course typically lasts from three days to over a week, depending on your experience and comfort level. You will practice real-life scenarios to learn how to instruct your dog to protect you. Throughout this process, we will spend time in your community and accompany you to ensure you feel comfortable taking on the role of handler with your new dog.
Remember, you are not just getting a pet; you are welcoming a trained working dog into your home. We will make sure you understand the basics of handling a working dog, including issuing commands and managing challenging situations.
For those with dog handling experience, we offer less guidance, while beginners receive the support they need to feel confident. We provide essential supplies, including leashes, collars, crates, and enough food and supplements for the first few weeks. We also assist you in finding local veterinarians and health professionals to keep your dog healthy
We visit the homes of all our customers to ensure everything is ready for their new family member. This visit may take place before introducing the dog or be combined with the introduction itself, depending on your preferences.

At K9 Technology, your safety is our top priority. That's why we are committed to offering our dogs at the most affordable prices-because everyone deserves protection. We take pride in tailoring each dog to meet the unique needs and lifestyles of our clients, ensuring a perfect match every time.

Tasting menus have become increasingly popular in metro Detroit, and the benefits of them work twofold: Diners get to experience delicious, imaginative dinners filled with variety and inspiration from Michigan and beyond. Meanwhile, their favorite chefs get to work curating experiences that won’t soon be forgotten, fulfilling their creative desires and expressing their culinary prowess in the process while. Whether it’s to celebrate a big promotion, an anniversary, or just an excuse to go all out with a group of friends, the tasting menu offers a unique way to sample a fuller spread of the menu, often in bite-sized portions that highlight seasonality and the whimsy of the kitchen crew.
Tasting menus in the metro Detroit area range from about $60 to upwards of $160 — downright reasonable for a tasting menu in comparison to restaurants in other major cities. Wine or beverage pairings are usually available for an additional price. Reservations are typically the norm in these settings, so plan ahead. Here are 10 places in the region to enjoy a tasting menu experience.
New to the map: Sozai and Frame in Hazel Park have been removed from the latest update of this map due to closures, but Takoi, Saffron de Twah, and Barda have all been added.

Mabel Gray
A decade in the game in the game, chef James Rigato’s artful but unpretentious Mabel Gray offers a tasting menu that helps to shine a light on the team’s culinary chops. The new American menu changes daily and reflects the seasonality of Michigan. One visit might entail griddled king trumpet mushrooms, while a return trip could include Colorado lamb ribs made with garlic and fish sauce caramel, sake pickles, sesame, and iceberg lettuce. The tasting menu goes for $92 per person, plus $55 to include a beverage pairing. Reservations are recommended.
Barda
This James Beard Award-recognized Argentine steakhouse from chef Javier Bardauil is known for its flame-kissed meats, citrus-forward innovations, South American flavors, and cocktails. For those on a budget, the move here is to visit Barda during the week on Steakhouse Thursdays, where two diners can split four courses consisting of charred oysters, a charred Caesar salad, a wood-fired NY strip steak with chimichurri butter, roasted potatoes, and baked Alaska dessert for $100. At $50 a head, it’s a pretty good deal and gets you inside one of Detroit’s most lauded restaurants without breaking the bank.

Takoi
This local favorite and Eater Award winner from chef Brad Greenhill is known for its modern takes on Thai food, plus its commitment to seasonality and sustainability (after all, the restaurant operates a farm just a mile north of Corktown). The six-course shared menu at Takoi costs just $75 and features a mix of fan favorites and exclusive dishes from the kitchen. Full table participation is required for the food, as is true just about everywhere. Guests also have the option to add a beverage pairing, which offers a mix of sake and wine for an additional $38. Whether you opt for food or food and drink, it’s one of the most affordable tasting menus in the city. There’s also a vegetarian version of the menu that costs $60.

Freya
Freya is an upscale yet unpretentious restaurant that focuses solely on the tasting menu and prix-fixe experience. The tasting menu is a full event that includes nine courses and goes for $155 on the weekends. The five-course prix fixe is available throughout the week and costs $95 with options that accommodate some dietary restrictions as opposed to the tasting menu, which can’t be modified. The cuisine tends to be more vegetable-forward with dishes like Island Creek oysters accompanied with compressed melon, Michigan baby carrots charred with toasted pistachio, Michigan sweet corn agnolotti, and chocolate almond custard. The space feels very relaxed, with a minimal and elegant dining space with exposed brick and a host stand made of reclaimed wood, as well as an open kitchen where guests can witness the back-of-house crew at work.

Oak & Reel
Chef Jared Gadbaw brings his passion for seafood-centric Italian cuisine with his Eater Award-winning contemporary Italian restaurant, Oak & Reel. The menu combines local ingredients with seafood from waters around the world. Snapper, octopus, tuna Bolognese, and squid ink pasta offer bright, clean, and bold flavors. For a nightcap, head to the lower level to hit up the Upright, a cozy cocktail bar. Get the full experience with a six-course chef’s tasting menu for $109. Pro tip: The chef’s tasting menu is cheaper on Sundays ($95). Wine pairings are available for an additional $48. Reservations can be booked on OpenTable.
Mink
Reserve seats at this intimate seafood bar in Corktown for a five-course chef’s tasting menu featuring fresh oysters on the half shell from two coasts and a range of dishes. Leek-wrapped halibut, stracciatella with white anchovies, and steamed grouper with couscous have all made the rounds on recent menus that stay fresh by rotating once a month. The new menu posts the Monday before, and is subject to change based on seasonality and sourcing (as it should). A selection of caviar and sake makes the occasion even more special. Reservations are $85 per person.
SheWolf Pastificio & Bar
This modern Roman restaurant is upping the stakes for Italian cuisine in Detroit by milling its own flour for its pasta and focaccia. Chef Anthony Lombardo’s menu features pasta essentials like cacio e pepe and carbonara as well as intriguing seasonal dishes. SheWolf also offers its Cucina Curata, a tasting menu experience, for $115 per person. This option allows the kitchen to flex its creativity. Everyone in your group must order the tasting. And there’s an option wine pairing for $99. Reservations are needed.
Highlands
Nestled on the 71st floor of the Renaissance Center, the Highlands features a luxe steakhouse menu with plenty of wine and unparalleled views of downtown and the Detroit River. The prix-fixe menu is broken up into three courses, and guests get to choose from an array of selections within each course. For the first course, think tuna crudo, little gem lettuce salad, and wagyu beef tartare with smoked egg yolk and marrow toast. The second highlights Bolognese, duck, and octopus, and the third features items like lamb shank and a New York strip steak. There’s also a pretty extensive collection of red wines. The three-course menu costs $90, and a sommelier beverage pairings cost an extra $55. Make it extra splurge-y with caviar service. Book a reservation to take in the picturesque scenery along with a great dinner.
Saffron De Twah
Eater Award-winning Saffron De Twah is a Detroit staple for one simple reason — it serves some of the most deliciously inspired food in the city. Chef Omar Anani, who was nominated for a James Beard Award in 2023, has a penchant for transforming local ingredients and casual fare into modern Moroccan marvels. Notably, his chicken sandwich and lamb tagine have achieved legendary status among restaurant goers. He also offers a tasting menu where diners can experience both Saffron staples and newly created dishes that embrace his fine dining background. Guests can expect four to six courses for $75 with the option of a non-alcoholic beverage pairing. Saffron is known for its generous servings, so know that the food here will be portioned well. Guests are required to make a reservation online and select the tasting menu specifically.
Marrow
West Village’s award-winning butcher shop and restaurant Marrow offers an a la carte menu and a five-course chef’s tasting dinner for $90 per person. The menu changes daily, but expect a strong representation from Michigan farms. Menu items have included roasted local squash, roasted Michigan beets, and of course, locally sourced meats and bone marrow served with onion jam and black olive bread crumbs. Substitutions or alterations are not allowed, but when you make your reservation, be sure to note any allergies or dietary restrictions with your tasting menu request. The menu always features a few items not available on the a la carte menu, so get the tasting dinner if you’re seeking delicious and inspired farm-fresh creations. Reservations are required.

Community developer MiSide Community Impact Network joined state and local leaders to celebrate the grand opening of the Campbell Street Apartments, a brand-new affordable housing development located on 5800 Michigan Avenue. The development provides the East Chadsey-Condon neighborhood with 40 units of deeply affordable housing in its first phase of construction.
The new mixed-use development will offer a range of 1 to 3-bedroom units. All apartments are reserved for households not earning more than 30% of the area median income. However, thanks to project-based housing vouchers from MSHDA, no resident will have to pay more than 30% of their income on rent.
A second project with 32 units called Wesson Apartments will complement the redevelopment of the entire 5800 Michigan Avenue block. Wesson Avenue Apartments will be a four-story mixed-use building consisting of 45,000 square feet and is expected to open in about 19 months.
"The expansion of affordable housing is incredible. We continue to gain safe, affordable housing to retain our Detroiters and bring new ones in." Melia Howard, Deputy Mayor for the City of Detroit said. "I'm so grateful to be a part of the housing solution in our city and to see it flourish."
Campbell Street Apartments will offer lower-income households the opportunity to take advantage of the significant employment and community benefits stemming from continued investment in Corktown and its surrounding neighborhoods. The project is in the East Chadsey-Condon neighborhood, which is home to a one-acre community park, boasts three successful schools just blocks away, easy access to public transportation, stellar neighborhood grocery stores, and many other walkable amenities.
Additionally, the building next door to the development is also owned and operated by MiSide and houses a variety of community service non-profits including MiSide administrative offices and MiSide Health's Children, Youth, and Family Services, Life Directions, Mom’s and Babes WIC office and Covenant Community Care Federally Qualified Health Clinic.
“We are grateful for the support that the city of Detroit, the state of Michigan and all of our partners have provided to help us develop a housing project that embodies our mission and values here at MiSide,” said Sean de Four, president and CEO of MiSide Community Impact Network. “Together, we are bringing new life to an area that has been vacant for more than three decades by providing affordable housing with modern amenities to low-income residents in an area that is close to major employers as well as restaurants and shopping.”
Each unit is furnished and will come with amenities such double-bowl sinks, and hardwood floors. The building also features a community center, complete with a kitchen and entertainment area, as well as laundry facilities. 50 on-site, gated parking spaces are for residents, and access to additional gated off-site parking.
The project’s affordability is thanks in large part to Low-Income Housing Tax Credits and more than $14.6M in additional mortgage, gap, and construction loan financing from the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA).
“At MSHDA, we know that housing is foundational to thriving communities and individual opportunity,” said MSHDA CEO and Executive Director Amy Hovey. “The Campbell Street Apartments bring deeply affordable homes to a neighborhood rich with potential, connecting residents to jobs, schools, transit, and other vital amenities. We’re proud to support this project through significant financing and long-term rental assistance.”
The project was awarded a $1 million grant from Michigan’s Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) to clean up contaminated soil on the property prior to development. An additional $1 million in grant funding has recently been provided for the second phase of development.
“Cleaning up a vacant and contaminated property and helping to bring it back into productive use is the purpose of EGLE’s brownfield program,” said Carrie Geyer, Brownfield Assessment Manager for the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy. “Being able to do that for such a meaningful project has been incredibly rewarding.”
The Detroit/Wayne County Port Authority also provided $510,000 in funding for soil remediation as well.
The Detroit Housing and Revitalization Department’s Detroit Home Connect offers a central website for residents to explore affordable housing options across the city. Families can see developments that are under construction, search for properties by city regions, and learn how to apply for affordable housing. Those resources can be found at homeconnect.detroitmi.gov.

"We'll see anywhere from five to 10 to 15,000 people over the weekend," said Michigan Lavender Festival organizer Bonnie Swope.
Related: Here are the summer events across metro Detroit for 2025
This year's festival features more than 200 artists, 12 food trucks, and numerous vendors selling lavender products and other goods.
Swope clarified a common misconception about the event: "The Michigan Lavender Festival is not a farm. We're actually a big, beautiful festival that celebrates all things lavender in Michigan. So, we have many lavender farmers that are coming to join us here and they're bringing their lavender with them and their products."
Among those farmers is Leo Super with Super and Son Nursery and Landscape in Imlay City, who will be selling lavender plants at various price points.
"The smaller quarts are going to be $6 and then we'll go up into the gallons that will be $14 to $19," Super said.
Lavender is known for its fragrant purple flowers and potential health benefits, including calming and comforting effects.
Super noted that this year's growing season presented challenges. "We've had some cool weather this spring so that's going to impact its development," he said.
To overcome these difficulties, Super relied on greenhouse cultivation. "We've been trying to utilize a heated structure where we can control that environment but yeah typically the lavender is going to look good the end of June into the end of July," he said.
Despite the challenges, Super is excited to share his plants with festival attendees. "Oh it's awesome you know, to see a smile on their face and again, who doesn't love smelling lavender, it's just soothing, relaxing and it's a beautiful plant," Super said.
Tickets for the event are $10, with free admission for children under 12.
