The forecast for Wednesday is challenging because we will be monitoring the development of thunderstorms in the Big Bend region of Texas this afternoon and evening. The cluster of storms is expected to develop into a squall line. Some of the data has the line of storms splitting with one heading toward the Rio Grande Valley and one heading toward San Antonio. If the squall line splits, we will still be watching for scattered storm development along the outflow boundary as the sun comes up in the Coastal Bend.

It is important to note that not every model is in agreement with this much rain occurring or it being as strong as it is shown here. High-end rainfall totals could be over an inch, but most will see around 0.25" or less.
On Thursday, a similar scenario will play out. We will be watching for another squall line or mesoscale convective system to possibly develop and move into the Coastal Bend.

As drought intensifies across South Texas, Lake Corpus Christi has dropped to critically low levels, uncovering decades-old structures once submerged beneath its waters. Bridges, boathouses, roads, and remnants dating back to the 1930s have reemerged, capturing the attention of residents and historians alike.
The reservoir, which once held a conservation capacity of 256,062 acre-feet, now holds just 45,996 acre-feet—about 18 percent full—according to the latest data from Water Data for Texas. The water level is currently 15 feet below the conservation pool, the result of prolonged dry conditions in the region.
Sweeping drone footage shared by Drone Hypnotics on YouTube shows a mesmerizing aerial view of the Texas lake, showcasing the stark contrast between the receding waters and the newly exposed landscape.
"It's shocking to say the least," Live Oak County historian Conrad Conrad (yes, that is his name) told KIII News. "And the worst part is there's nothing in the future."
One of the most notable discoveries is a steel bridge that once spanned the Nueces River. "The bridge was cut off actually at the moorings and dropped into the creek," Conrad explained. "So it's still down in there."
Also visible are the remains of a 1930s-era boathouse and park structures built by the Civilian Conservation Corps. "Now with the low lake levels, we're slowly able to see the remnants," said Krista Gonzales, an interpreter with Texas Parks and Wildlife.
Nathan Payne, director of Camp Zephyr—established along the lake in 1957—told KIII the lake's disappearing waters have brought history to the surface. "We've been here since '57...just shortly after they dammed the river and created the lake," he said.
The dramatic drop in water levels comes as nearly 12 percent of Texas faces "exceptional drought," the most severe category, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor. Corpus Christi remains under Stage 3 water restrictions.
"These structures tell a story," Conrad told KII. "But they also show what we've lost—and what we stand to lose if things don't change."

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — As the water recedes, the past resurfaces.
The ongoing drought has dropped water levels at Lake Corpus Christi so low that forgotten structures, long submerged beneath the surface, are now poking through. Bridges, roads and even remnants of a 1930s boathouse have reemerged from the depths, drawing attention from history buffs and lakefront residents alike.

Live Oak County historian Conrad Conrad, yes, that’s his real name, is helping identify some of the uncovered structures.
One of the more striking discoveries: an automobile bridge once used to cross what is now part of the lakebed.
“When they raised it the first time, they still wanted access to the other side, so they built this automobile bridge over there,” Conrad said.
He also shared an old photograph of a steel bridge that once spanned the Nueces River at Lagarto. That bridge, he said, was chopped at the moorings and dropped into the water before the area was flooded to create the lake.
“The bridge was cut off actually at the moorings and dropped into the creek, which would be the Nueces River,” he said. “So it’s still down in there.”
Among those fascinated by the lake’s disappearing act is Nathan Payne, executive director of Camp Zephyr. The Christian retreat has called the lake home since 1957. That just after the river was dammed and the area was transformed into a reservoir.
“I enjoy learning about the area that Zephyr is a part of,” Payne said. “We’ve been here since ’57, and so, just shortly after they founded Zephyr, they dammed the river and created the lake.”
As water levels continue to drop, even more remnants of the past have become visible tree stumps, crumbling roads, and old park structures, including one built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression.
“The boathouse was submerged underwater when the dam was created in the ’50s,” said Krista Gonzales, a Texas Parks and Wildlife interpreter. “Now with the low lake levels, we’re slowly able to see the remnants. This is what we can see from the Catfish Cove area of the park.”
Back near Lagarto Creek, where the river once flowed freely, the scene is now bone dry. For Conrad and his neighbors, the sight is discouraging.
“It’s shocking to say the least,” he said. “And the worst part is there’s nothing in the future.”
He hasn’t been able to use his dock in more than three years. But like many who call this area home, he’s holding onto hope that rain will return and bring the lake back with it.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — In the last 10 days, parts of South Texas have seen heavy rain — particularly near Victoria, where more than 10 inches helped replenish Lake Texana. Corpus Christi also received significant rainfall, but the most crucial areas missed out.
“Since we’re not seeing any in the watershed, it’s a lot of missed opportunities — with heavy rainfall that fell instead in Baffin Bay,” said KRIS 6 meteorologist Stephanie Lauber. The watershed that feeds Choke Canyon Reservoir and Lake Corpus Christi is located northwest of the city — in areas like Atascosa County and Calliham. Without rainfall there, local lakes continue to struggle.
To buy time, the city is increasing the amount of water it draws from Lake Texana via the Mary Rhodes Pipeline — boosting the intake from 55 million gallons per day to 70 million.

“That gives us the ability to use less water from Lake Corpus Christi and Choke Canyon, and let them rest — let them take some of that beneficial rainfall and hold onto it,” said Esteban Ramos with Corpus Christi Water. Letting the western lakes rest helps preserve limited resources. But without rainfall in the watershed, recovery remains slow.
“I want my western supplies to bounce back — and it’s location, location, location... just like buying a house,” Ramos said. And even with some areas getting rain, the long-running drought still casts a shadow.
“We need water in the reservoirs, but we’ve been in a drought for so long — it’s going to take time,” Lauber said.
